Day three of the nationals brought some more consistent winds. We completed both races very quickly in the morning which was a nice change. I had my best day yet and finished with a 2nd and a 1st. We have a day off tomorrow before the last half of the regatta.

Sunday, 29 December 2013

Day two of the nationals brought similar conditions to yesterday just a little bit lighter. I could quite pick it in the first race and finished in 5th but the second was much better and I managed to grab a first. I am in sharing first position with Colin Cheng from Singapore but there is plenty of racing left.

Saturday, 28 December 2013

Sorry for any inconvineance but my post for today is on the following link: https://www.facebook.com/MattWearnSailing/posts/438881556212838
Today we had the invitation race in a very strange northerly. We started the race in 15 knots but by the time we got to the top mark there was on 2 knots. The wind kept shifting left throughout the race before it kicked in at 40knots from the south. Unfortunately the races were abandoned so no one won the $400 in any class. First day of racing tomorrow so hopefully we will get a consistent breeze.

Friday, 27 December 2013

I have had a great few days in McCrae training in a variety of conditions before the Australian national championships start on the 28th. Tomorrow is the invitation race where you can pick up $400 for first. Looking forward to a great regatta.

Friday, 6 December 2013

Today was the medal race, I didn't sail well at all and only managed an 8th. Fortunately I still managed to finish 3rd overall. After the way my regatta started I am happy that I managed to pull that out of the event. I will have a bit of time off now and will sail a few different classes to learn a few things before heading back to Melbourne for the nationals at the end of the month.

Monday, 2 December 2013

Day one of Sail Melbourne was not the way I had it planned. Started the day with forgetting my sail so was half an hour late to the club and it was one big rush from there. Took a bit to get used to starting with such a small fleet again so the starts weren't ideal and I didn't sail my best in the first race to end up with an 8th. The second race was a little better and finished up with a 4th. Another day tomorrow an another chance to pick up my game.

Saturday, 30 November 2013

It has been a short gap between the worlds in Oman and Sail Melbourne but we have managed to drive the boats from Perth to Melbourne to get ourselves ready for racing tomorrow. Sail Melbourne always produces good racing so am looking forward to the week ahead.

Saturday, 23 November 2013

Day 7 of worlds was another long one. We waited in shore until after lunch where we went out and waited some more for the wind to come in. The wind never stabilised but the race committee were keen to get a race in so they started us anyway with 5 mins till the last signal could be made. I had a terrible race in the very tricky conditions along with a lot of the top sailors. I did enough to keep my top ten position and finished 10th. I have now qualified for the Australian sailing team. Thanks to everyone for all there support through out the week.

Friday, 22 November 2013

Day 6 of worlds was the longest by far. After going out on the water and waiting then coming back on shore for 10 mins we finally got out got the first race under way in 8-12 knots. It was very shifty and finished with a 42. Luckily this is my second drop. I had some better luck in the dropping breeze in the second race and finished with a 4th. I am coming 8th overall with the last day of sailing tomorrow.

Thursday, 21 November 2013

Day 5 brought some more light winds. After waiting on shore for a little bit we got out and started our first race in 5-10 knots. I had a solid race and finished in 13th. This was the only race for today because a storm came in so we had to go in. Things a tightening up and with only two days left the racing will be intense. I am still in 9th overall but have a lot of work to keep the great result.

Wednesday, 20 November 2013

Day 4 and the last day of qualifying brought 5-10 knots of wind and very shifty. In the first race I sailed well and finished 4th but the 2nd race was completely different. I got a yellow flag at the bottom mark and had to watch the whole fleet sail past while I was doing my turns. Luckily this is my drop and I am now in 9th overall going in to finals tomorrow. Lots of tight racing ahead and looking forward to every second of it.

Tuesday, 19 November 2013

Day three of worlds was almost identical to the last two days with 15 knots of breeze. Today we had three races so we could catch up on the one we missed yesterday. I had a solid day and posted a 6 a 7 and a 4. This has moved me to 10th overall. One more day of qualifying before finals start on Thursday. Still a lot of racing left.

Monday, 18 November 2013

Day two of worlds started with no wind and the whole fleet were waiting on shore until the afternoon where we finally got out on the water. The yellow fleet at 4 general recalls before they got away so by the time we started it was mid afternoon. We got one race in where I managed to finish in 7th. Still have some work to do with my starts but all on track at the moment. 3 races tomorrow where anything can happen.

Sunday, 17 November 2013

The first day of the laser world championships turned out to be a tough one for me. We saw the wind get up to 18 knots today which is something that no one expected. I finished the day of with a 18th and a 14th. Solid results seeing as once again my starts let me down. I know what I have to fix and should be on top of that problem for tomorrow. Still a lot of sailing ahead and looking forward to every second of it.

Thursday, 14 November 2013

Today is going to be my last training session on the water before the first race of the worlds that start on Sunday. It has been a great week of training and it has also been great to see how my progress has gone since the last worlds. I will have the day off tomorrow to do to fully rest up before the week ahead.

Wednesday, 6 November 2013

Arrived in Oman yesterday for the laser world championships. Today we collected our boats and will have our first sail this afternoon. Weather is amazing and the wind is perfect.

Friday, 1 November 2013

Final preparations for worlds have gone to plan in Sydney. Spent the week simulating a little regatta which was good to get my head around. Looking forward to getting to Oman in a few days but first back home to get a few thing sorted.

Saturday, 26 October 2013

I have spent the last month back in full training to get myself fully prepared for the worlds in Oman at the start of November. Now it's off to Sydney to train with the team and to finish off the final stages of training before the worlds.

Friday, 6 September 2013

Finished the Europeans in Ireland of strong with a 12th and a 5th to secure a 7th overall. Very pleased with this result but there is pleanty to work on before the worlds in November. Thanks everyone for the support throughout the regatta.

Wednesday, 4 September 2013

The first day of finals brought 20-25 knots. Both races today were about an hour long and they definitely took a toll on everyone's bodies. In the first race I got some seaweed around my centre and had to sail the race with it so ended up with a 24th. I got to show my speed in the second race and finished the day with a 5th to move me up to 12th overall. Looking forward to some lighter winds tomorrow.

Tuesday, 3 September 2013

Finished off the qualifying series with a 5th and an 8th been very consistent so looking forward to some close racing in gold fleet over the next three days

Monday, 2 September 2013

The second day off racing brought similar conditions as the first. Big pressure differences and very shifty. I had another solid day with a 7th and 11th. My only set back has been my starts so the plan is to fix that tomorrow.

Sunday, 1 September 2013

After the first day of the Europeans I am sitting in 17th, we had 15-20 knots but very shifty conditions. I managed to get a 9 and a 4. Looking forward to more racing tomorrow.

Friday, 30 August 2013

Registration an measurement started today for the 2013 Europeans in Dublin. I have had a good week of training and now having a day off today before the regatta starts on Sunday.

Tuesday, 27 August 2013

Have been in Ireland for a few days now and had my first session on the water today. It was great to be back in my boat. Looking forward to racing in a few days.

Thursday, 22 August 2013

Had my last day of sailing in Rio for the year today. It was great to get familiar with the very tricky conditions that Rio has to offer but there is definitely a lot more to learn. Now off to Ireland to compete in the European championships.

Thursday, 15 August 2013

So I have been in Rio for a few days now and it has definitely been an experience. We all came expecting light winds but on the first day out on the water we had 25 knots which was a surprise. Today we had more expected conditions and was great to start getting a grasp on what might be in store for us in three years at the Olympics. I am looking forward to learning more over the next week.

Friday, 9 August 2013

Had a great week training in Sydney. We had everything from 0-30 knots so was good to see how everything is going. Spending the next couple of days packing before heading of to Rio on Monday to check out the Olympic venue for 2016.

Saturday, 3 August 2013

Off to Sydney for a week of training before heading off to Rio and Dublin.

Monday, 22 July 2013

Back in to full time training again after a couple of weeks off due to illness. The body is feeling great and now just working on getting my fitness back again.

Wednesday, 10 July 2013

Was meant to be in Sydney for some training but 24 hours before leaving I developed a serious infection in my throat and had to be admitted to hospital. Still in Perth trying to recover. Will hopefully be back out on the water in just over a week.

Saturday, 25 May 2013

Silver at the Delta Lloyd regatta in Holland. Came second in the medal race to lose to first on count back. Thanks to everyone for the support throughout the regatta and I am looking forward to catching up with everyone in a few days when I arrive back in Perth

Friday, 24 May 2013

Today was the last day of the finals series and it was my last chance to keep my top 6 position to make it in to the medal race tomorrow. We had a range from 5-35 knots today with some big shifts on the course. I finished the day with a 6th an 8th and a 2nd to put myself in 3rd position going in to the medal race tomorrow. The way the system works now is that the placing you are in is what points you carry in to the race. Meaning that it is possible for anyone to win.

Thursday, 23 May 2013

Yesterday we didn't get out on the water until 4 and started the first race of the day at 5. It was to windy to leave shore so we had to wait for it to drop. Both races were run in 20-25 knots in some shifty conditions. In the first race I came from behind to take my first win of the regatta. The second race I got unlucky with the shifts and finished 9th. Today we had anything from 5-25 knots with up to 90 degree shifts. One of the coldest days I have ever experienced. Finished the day with a 5, 22, 15. Still coming 5th overall with one more day of racing left before the medal race.

Tuesday, 21 May 2013

The first day of racing in the Delta Lloyd regatta brought some shifty 8-12 knots. I was enjoying the tricky conditions today and finished up with a 4th, 7th and 2nd. This is a solid start to the regatta and I am looking forward to consolidating tomorrow in a bit more breeze.

Sunday, 19 May 2013

Another great training session today. We had a different wind which looks similar to what we will have for the regatta. The shifty and moderate breeze is suiting my style well and I am feeling very confident. The boat is all registered and measured. I will have a day off tomorrow to get fully prepared before racing starts on the  21st.

Saturday, 18 May 2013

My first day of training in Medemblik Holland brought some cold shifty 10-15 knot breeze. I had a great session and my confidence is feeling great with only 3 days of training left until the regatta starts. 2 more days of on water training and then a day of to get ready for the first race on the next day.

Saturday, 11 May 2013

Finished the olympic week in Garda in 12th. Very shifty conditions today and got quite unlucky in the first 2 races of the day. Now for a couple of days of windsurfing and riding before heading to Medemblik in Holland.

Friday, 10 May 2013

No racing today due to no wind. Spent the day sitting in the rain waiting. The great gym session made up for it though. Early start tomorrow with a lot of racing to be had.

Thursday, 9 May 2013

I had a solid day to finish off the qualifying series in 11th after getting a 2, 16, 6. Looking forward to finals over the next 2 days

Wednesday, 8 May 2013

First day of the Eurosaf event in Garda today. Ended the very tricky conditions with an 8, 5, 30. Definitely felt out of sorts for a little bit after not being in the boat for a couple of weeks. Just one more day tomorrow to qualify in the top 25.

Sunday, 28 April 2013

Finished off the ISAF sailing world cup in Hyeres in 18th place. Another solid result to confirm my Australian  Sailing qualification for next year. Now in Lake Garda Italy for some time off and to concentrate on getting fit and healthy for the next 2 regattas.

Wednesday, 24 April 2013

Had a great day out on the water today in the 15 knot breeze. Finished the day with a 8th and a 1st. Moved up the overall results from 45th to 26th. The plan is to keep charging up the leader board over the next 2 days.

Tuesday, 23 April 2013

The last day of the qualifying series today brought some more light shift conditions. The wind was between 5-10 knots and very choppy. I got 2 solid results to finish in gold fleet. Got a lot of work to do to make it a respectable result but the next few days a bringing a lot more wind.

Monday, 22 April 2013

The first day of the ISAF sailing world cup in Hyeres brought 2-6 knots of very shifty wind. This made it seriously hard to be consistent and it was a day that I would like to forget. Tomorrow is another day and is the last day of the qualifying series. One more final push to get a good spot going in to finals.

Saturday, 20 April 2013

After a solid training block in Hyeres there is now only one day left till the final ISAF world cup event for the calender year. Can't wait to get out there and start racing

Wednesday, 10 April 2013

There are currently lots of opportunities for sponsorship. If you are interested in your companies name on either me or my boat it will be seen at every event that I go to. Please do not hesitate to contact me. ( mattwearnsailing@gmail.com )

Monday, 8 April 2013

After the solid result in Palma I have moved up to 4th in the ISAF world rankings.

Saturday, 6 April 2013

Finished Palma off in 6th. Very solid result for the first regatta for the year. Now for the 6 day cycle camp.

Friday, 5 April 2013

Had a very solid day today. Got a 9 and a 10 today to finish the finals series in 6th. Two medals races tomorrow which are double points so anything could happen. Looking forward to it.

Wednesday, 3 April 2013

Finished qualifying off with a 16 and a 5 in the light to moderate winds. Looking forward to gold fleet which starts today. The weird new system means that I am only on 5 points after the 6 races because I am in 5th. Lets see how it works out.

Tuesday, 2 April 2013

The second day of the ISAF world cup in Palma Brought 10-20 knots. These seem to be my conditions as I finished the day with a 2nd and a 1st. This has put me in 3rd overall. Some lighter winds tomorrow will be a nice change.

Monday, 1 April 2013

Ended the first day of racing with a 3 and a 6. Made some mistakes in the second race which cost me a lot but still very happy to have proved that I am strong in the wind. Great solid start and looking forward to the days of racing to come.

Saturday, 30 March 2013

A great week of moderate to strong wind training in Palma. Now for a couple of days off before my first world cup of the year kicks off. Getting to know the different riding routes around Palma with the boys too. Looking forward to getting under way.

Monday, 25 March 2013

Today we had a good 15-20 knots with some big swell in Palma for another day of training. My boat speed was good both up and down wind. Was nice to have some fun on the way in by taking advantage of the breaking waves on the beach.

Saturday, 23 March 2013

Unpacked the boats yesterday in Palma. It's the first time I have seen my boat since the last day of nationals in January. Looking forward to sailing my own boat in Europe for the next two months

Saturday, 16 March 2013

Finished the Mussanah race week today. Didn't finish the way i would have like with a 10 and a 16. Learnt lots about the place and about my skills in the light wind which was the major goal from the start. Looking forward to working on all these areas before the worlds in November. Next stop is Palma Spain for the world cup.

Wednesday, 13 March 2013

Second day of the Mussanah race week. Finished the day off with a 10, 13, 6. Made a costly mistake at the top mark and lost 15 places in the second race. Still have a lot to learn about Oman before the end of the week.

Tuesday, 12 March 2013

After the first day of racing at the Mussanah race week I am sitting in 6th after getting a 11, 1, 8, 5. solid day but I have a lot to work on before the worlds at the end of the year.

Monday, 11 March 2013

First day of racing today in Oman. Looks like there is going to be light to moderate wind so some good racing should come from today.
Moved up to 20th in the ISAF world rankings. Six Australians in the top 20 now. Looking good for Aus.

Wednesday, 6 March 2013

Just finished a week of training with the team in Sydney and no we are just about to board the plane to Oman for some more training to prepare for the worlds in November. should be some good light wind practice before heading to Palma.

Saturday, 23 February 2013

Back in Perth after the AIS camp to do some final packing and to get everything set for the 3 months ahead. Off to Sydney on Tuesday where I will be doing some training with the team for a couple of weeks before heading off to Oman.

Wednesday, 20 February 2013

Final two days of the AIS camp for 2013. Its been a great couple of days to get ready for the big year ahead.

Sunday, 10 February 2013

It was the Mini Series regatta this weekend. Won every race to take out the regatta by 9 points. Very tricky conditions and was some good racing.
One week until the big trip begins.

Friday, 1 February 2013

Final day of the Warren Jones match racing regatta today. We started the semi finals well with to race wins but was cut short due to no wind. Went went in to finals against Dave Gilmour. Dave was just to good for us today and we made some little mistakes which cost us the regatta. Happy to have finished 2nd.

Thursday, 31 January 2013

3rd day of Warren Jones today. Finished the round robin off poorly but we won every race of the quarter finals which puts us in a good spot for the semi finals. The finals are being raced from 3:30 tomorrow if anyone wants to come down and watch.

Wednesday, 30 January 2013

Second day of the Warren Jones regatta saw us finish the round robin off with 2 wins. Started the 2nd round robin with only one loss so far. Looking forward to the second half of the regatta.

Tuesday, 29 January 2013

First day of racing in the Warren Jones match racing regatta. We finished with 5 wins and 2 loses. Solid day on the water and tomorrow should be good.

Saturday, 26 January 2013

Competed in the Pot Of Gold regatta at Hillarys yacht club. I finished off with 4 out of 4 race wins. I start competing in the Warren Jones match racing regatta tomorrow. That finishes up with the finals on Friday  hopefully we get there. Team is sailing well together and should be ready to take it on.

Wednesday, 23 January 2013

Been doing some training on the foundation 36 to get ready for the Warren Jones match racing regatta which starts on Monday. The training is going well and we should be ready for some great racing.

Friday, 18 January 2013

Finished the Little Wheel match racing regatta in second yesterday. We didn't lose a match on the second day to get in to the final. The final was changed to one race rather than best out of five. We got a penalty on the start and the small course made it almost impossible to come back from it. Looking forward to competing in the Warren Jones regatta in a couple of weeks.

Wednesday, 16 January 2013

Spent the last few days training on the BW8'"s and doing laps around the river on the bikes. Been great for the fitness but the muscles are a bit sore.

Saturday, 12 January 2013

Spent yesterday afternoon on the Melges 24 competing in the Rumble In The Reach regatta. The conditions were very tough and the course was very small so it made it difficult to catch up on the handicap that we were given. Made a few mistakes which hurt us on such a small course. We still had some very short but fast rides.

Tuesday, 8 January 2013

Hi everyone. Sorry about the lack of updates of the last year. This new and revitalised page will be updated regularly and everyone can follow my progress.
Pretty much over the last year I have been getting used to the European campaign life.
The latest update would be that I have just come second in Sail Melbourne, sixth at Sail Sydney and fourth at the nationals in Hobart. I was first under 21 in all of these regattas.
I am on a break at the moment and just having some fun with the Musto Skiffs and training with Tristan Brown for the Warren Jones match racing regatta.
Will keep in touch.
