Wednesday, 31 December 2014

Another extremely tough end to the year. A solid 25knots in both races. First race was another second but finished the year off strong getting a first. Day off tomorrow before the last 3 days of racing.

Tuesday, 30 December 2014

Tough day 2 yesterday. Felt like a bit of deja vu with posting another 2 seconds. The racing at the top is extremely close so just got to keep pushing.

Sunday, 28 December 2014

Had a quick burn around comet bay this morning to sharpen up before the start of the Nationals tomorrow. Looks like a windy week expected and looking forward to the close racing.

Saturday, 13 December 2014

Day 5 brought a very hot northerly which was decreasing in strength all day. We just got two races in. In the first I fought back to finish 4th but in the second I got caught up in a battle with Tom to finish 13th. This was my drop so still sitting in 2nd going in to tomorrow's medal race.

Friday, 12 December 2014

Day 4 was extremely tough for myself. After hitting the water not feeling 100% I struggled in the first race getting an 11th. I managed to bounce back in the second to minimise the loss and get a 2nd. Still sitting in 2nd overall

Wednesday, 10 December 2014

Day 2 meant a late start and finish for us as light wind early afternoon saw the fleet before us being postponed which pushed us back. When the solid 10-17 knots came in we got two races away. Managed to get a 2nd and a 1st to move me up to 2nd overall.

Monday, 8 December 2014

Day 1 of Sail Melbourne brought tough sailing. Started the day well with a 3rd but could only manage a 10th in the second race. Sitting in 4th overall with a lot of racing left. Later start tomorrow so hopefully the wind will settle for racing.

Sunday, 7 December 2014

I have been in Melbourne for a couple of days now. We had a short sail today to get everything sorted before the first World Cup of the season starts tomorrow.

Saturday, 29 November 2014

Strong finish to regular racing today with a 2nd and a 1st. This moved me up to 2nd overall going in to the medal race tomorrow. Hopefully finish strong in the double points race tomorrow.

Tuesday, 25 November 2014

Opening ceremony here in Abu Dhabi for the ISAF Sailing World Cup Final today. One more day of training before we get in to the regatta.

Monday, 3 November 2014

Back in Canberra for another Australian Sailing Team camp. Looking forward to seeing the progress made throughout the year.

Wednesday, 29 October 2014

Officially back in to training. Over in Sydney for the rest of the year with the occasional trip away. Looking forward to the solid block with the boys.

Saturday, 13 September 2014

Day 2 brought a lot of waiting around. Similar winds to yesterday but all over the place. Finished the day off with a 10 and a 29. The 29 is my drop so still on track. Happy to be getting in to finals tomorrow

Friday, 12 September 2014

Day 1 of the ISAF worlds brought a lot of fog in the morning but once that cleared we got a steady 5-8 knots. I had a very solid start to the regatta with a 7th and a 2nd. I am sitting in 3rd overall but still a very long way to go. Last day of qualifying tomorrow and then in to finals.

Tuesday, 2 September 2014

After a little time off after the test event in Rio it was back to it in Lake Garda Italy. There I had a solid weeks training before heading to the worlds venue in Santander. I have had some great training so far and the new boat is going well. Still a solid week and a bit of training before we get in to racing at the ISAF world championships.

Thursday, 7 August 2014

Day 4 and we moved inside the harbour. Only one race was sailed in very marginal conditions with a no rules apply approach to every mark rounding. Found my discard getting a 24. Last day of fleet racing tomorrow with 3 races scheduled. Sitting in 5th overall.

Wednesday, 6 August 2014

Day 2 brought big swell and 8-15 knots. Not a day for people who get sea sick. Had a solid start the the regatta getting a 7,6,4 in the first 3 races. Sitting in 6th with a drop but would be in 2nd without one. Consistency will hopefully pay off later on in the regatta.

Sunday, 3 August 2014

It has been a great week and a bit of training here in Rio. Now we get in to the Olympic test event. Everything kicks off tomorrow so hopefully the wind and the weather cooperate. It will be a great test before the worlds in September. Looking forward to the racing ahead.

Wednesday, 16 July 2014

Back in Sydney for another training camp before heading off to Rio for the test event. Not often you get to straight line with a seal. He seemed to enjoy the lasers out on Sydney harbour today.

Saturday, 14 June 2014

1 race over the last 3 days of the regatta and only 6 races all up at the Europeans. Couldn't quite get in to a rhythm this regatta so finished up 20th overall. could have been worse but happy with the progress I am making in the light air. Now I head to Germany to pick up the new boat before heading home for a solid training block before the Olympic test event in Rio and the ISAF worlds in Santander Spain.

Thursday, 12 June 2014

An extremely hot and long day on the water with no races completed. 4 attempted starts with one getting away but never made it to the top mark. 5 races in two days is looking unlikely so every race counts from here on. Hopefully the wind cooperates tomorrow.

Wednesday, 11 June 2014

I had a solid last day of the qualifying series today with a 9 and 11. The results a super close going in to Gold fleet racing tomorrow. Looking forward to some close and intense racing.

Tuesday, 10 June 2014

Second day of qualifying certainly didn't go my way. We only managed one race in a very light and fluky breeze. Finished 31st. Last day of qualifying tomorrow so hopefully some solid breeze comes our way so can go in to finals in a strong position

Monday, 9 June 2014

First day of the Europeans brought an solid 6-12 knot breeze. I had a solid start to the regatta with a 7 and a 3 in a very competitive fleet. Similar winds forecast for tomorrow so another day of good racing ahead.

Sunday, 8 June 2014

I have spent the last few days doing some final training out on the water and now spending the day off to get hydrated and rested for the long and hot week ahead. Looking forward to getting in to the racing tomorrow

Wednesday, 4 June 2014

Had an up and down down regatta at the pre event for the Europeans which start next week. Finished 8th overall. Great lead up event to get used to the conditions here in Split. Looking forward to a couple of days off before getting in to it.

Friday, 30 May 2014

The first day of the GP Mornar regatta was a day of waiting. No racing was even attempted to be started. Starting to get the feeling there could be a lot of waiting around for wind over the next couple of regattas.

Thursday, 24 April 2014

Another extremely tough day today. We waited ashore until 4 in the afternoon before going out racing. I made some terrible decisions on the crowded start lines today which cost me. I have moved down to 10th overall with one day of racing left. We didn't get ashore until after 8 tonight which makes it a quick turn around for racing tomorrow morning. Looking forward to recovering my starting efforts to secure a medal race position for Saturday

Wednesday, 23 April 2014

First day of finals was a tough one for myself. The wind was in a different direction today but was from 8-15 knots. I managed a 8th in the first race but could not back it up in the second to record a big result. This is now my discard so I am still looking alright in the overall positions. Another day tomorrow to solidify my position at the top.

Tuesday, 22 April 2014

Day two brought similar conditions to yesterday. I had another solid day to end the qualifying series in 5th with a 9,2 today. The next three days of finals is going to be packed with tight racing. Looking forward to getting in to it.

Monday, 21 April 2014

The first day of the World Cup in Hyeres brought 3 races in a moderate 15 knot breeze. Took one very poor top mark rounding the first race to make me quickly remember how easy it is to lose 20 positions. Managed to end the day in 2nd overall with a 11,2,1. There is still a lot of tight racing left so anything can happen. Another solid day tomorrow will put me in a good position going in to finals.

Saturday, 19 April 2014

Training in Hyeres is coming to an before the final ISAF sailing world cup for the 2013-2014 season. I have had the day off today to register and measure for the regatta. Will have a final sail tomorrow to make sure I am fully prepared for racing on Monday.

Tuesday, 15 April 2014

It has been a great 10 days in Palma riding and sailing and now I have arrived in Hyeres France for another world cup. Looking forward to a solid week of training before getting in to some more great racing.

Saturday, 5 April 2014

Australia 1st 2nd 3rd in the medal race today. After protests last night I had moved down to 7th but my 3rd in the medal race confirmed me a 6th overall. Exact same result as last year but still happy for the first regatta back in Europe. Congratulations to Tom Burton on taking out the regatta. Have a little time off to do some cycling round Palma before heading off to Hyeres in France for the last of the world cup events.

Thursday, 3 April 2014

Today was a day that started well but ended up in breaking a top section and seriously bending the bottom section of my mast. The wind and waves just kept building throughout the day as the rain came and went. I managed a solid 2nd in the first race but things started to go down hill from there. In the second race was pushed out at the start with seconds to go but managed to race my way back to a 16th in the 60 boat fleet. The third race started exceptionally well and had plenty of boat speed, just didn't place the boat in the right spots. finished the race in 19th. To top the day off on the way in I found myself in some breaking waves that you would expect to see on the pro surfing tour. This resulted in me being separated from my boat. The force of the wave broke my top section and severely bent my bottom section. Was very lucky that that's all that happened. Spent the rest of the afternoon repairing sails and getting permission to change my masts. With 3 more races left of the finals I have moved up to 9th overall but the points are very tight. Hopefully I can have a good day tomorrow to put myself in a good position to fight in the medal race in two days time.

Wednesday, 2 April 2014

Another long day today. After waiting on shore because the line for the trackers was taking to long the wind decided to die. We waited around for a couple of hours before heading out. Once we arrived at the course there was absolutely no wind for another few hours so the race committee decided to changed location. This was a good idea as we saw a good 15 knot breeze come in. When we finally got started around just after 5pm the wind became so shifty that the race had to be abandoned. All that waiting and getting back to sure after 6 and we didn't manage to get a race in. 3 races tomorrow to try catch up on the races we missed today. Hopefully the wind cooperates.

Tuesday, 1 April 2014

Day 2 was another super long day. Started off with no breeze and the because another class was using our course we didn't get a race off till 4:30. We completed 2 races in a 6-12 knot South Easterly that was very shifty. I managed to post a 6 an a 4 which moves me up to 13th overall. Points are super close due the fleet being split in to 3. I am very happy to go in to finals tomorrow with no terrible scores yet. Hopefully can keep improving and keep those scores consistent.

Monday, 31 March 2014

Today we completed 3 races in a 5-8 knot seabreeze. I had fantastic boat speed both up and downwind but unfortunately a few little mistakes in the big fleet cost me dearly. I posted a 7 and two 9's which does put me in good stead for the rest of the regatta but it certainly wasn't the start to the regatta I was looking for. The aim for the two races tomorrow is to get rid of the silly mistakes. Looking forward to a little more breeze too.

Sunday, 30 March 2014

Not much wind a bit of rain for my last training session before racing starts tomorrow. Was a nice little 45 min sail with the rest of the Aus Sailing Team boys to sharpen up the racing skills. Looking forward to getting underway after all the training in Aus and Europe.

Saturday, 29 March 2014

It has been a great week and a half of training here in Palma. Managed to sail in a variety of conditions. Having a day off today to register and measure the boat for the regatta and then will have a short sail tomorrow to sharpen up the skills before we start racing on Monday

Saturday, 22 March 2014

I have been in Palma for few days now and have been on the water for two. Its has been great to get back in the boat again plus on the bike. Looking forward to a bit more training before getting in to the regatta.

Saturday, 1 March 2014

Today was the first day of the laser state championships. I managed to win 3 out of 3 races today in the 6-12 knot westerly breeze. 3 more races tomorrow in what looks like similar conditions.

Tuesday, 18 February 2014

I have been in Sydney for the last few days training with the rest of the laser squad. Been great to get back with the guys. A few more days of training here in rainy Sydney before heading to Canberra for a couple of days.

Thursday, 6 February 2014

Had my first coupe of sessions back in the boat after some much needed time off. Always nice getting back in to the boat and getting the training underway again. We have the mini series on the river this weekend which should be good fun. Then a couple of weeks training before all the travel starts again.

Wednesday, 1 January 2014

Day 4 of racing today was very similar to the first day of racing. With a 10-15 knot southerly which was extremely shifty. I managed to sail these conditions well to consolidated lead of the regatta with a 1st and a 2nd. Looking forward to the next two days of racing.
